Protecting Retirement Savings
Among the challenges facing seniors as a result of the recession, the economic downturn has forced many older Americans to make withdrawals from their retirement savings and incur tax penalties.

To remedy this problem, I supported the bipartisan Comprehensive Entitlement Reform Commission Act of 2007 which provided relief for seniors, eliminating the minimum distribution required in calendar year 2009 from individual retirement plans and employer-provided qualified retirement plans. This will help seniors avoid a tax when they can least afford it.  I am pleased to have supported a bipartisan solution to this pressing problem.
